I grew up in Zagreb, Croatia, and as is apparent from this short bio, I have been moving west ever since. I received my education at the following universities: B.Sc. Biology (1981), University of Zagreb; M.Sc. Cell Biology (1982), University of Zagreb; Ph.D. Botany (1988) Michigan State University, and have been employed as a Postdoctoral Fellow (1988-89), University of Saskatchewan; Research associate (1989-91) and Research officer (1991-93) NRCC Plant Biotechnology Institute, Saskatoon. I finally settled down in the Department of Botany at UBC, when I was appointed Assistant Professor in 1993.
Having been trained as a cell biologist, geneticist and molecular biologist, I like to integrate a variety of approaches to investigate basic and applied questions in plant lipid metabolism.
