The study of ecology has a long and strong tradition at the University of British Columbia.
As well as the Department
of Botany there are plant ecologists in the Departments of
Zoology, Plant Sciences, Forest Sciences, and Geography. The Botany
Department is one of the largest and strongest in North America,
offering a wide range of research and educational programs.
Specializations range from the Organismal to the molecular level. We
also have strong linkages with the Beaty
Biodiversity Research Center which has more than fifty
members. We carry out research on a wide range of topics, including
evolution, systematics and phylogeny, population and community ecology,
fisheries management, conservation biology, and theoretical modeling.
All
graduate programs at the University of British Columbia are
administered by the Faculty
of Graduate Studies.
